Winter Sunrise

You are my winter sunrise.

I wake up early every morning just to see you-

Just to try to catch a glimpse of your radiant beams

after cold and unforgiving night.

You are the dawn that breaks

signaling that life is not always bad.

But though you appear to be my sweet relief,

that’s all you are: An appearance.

Because no matter how brightly you shine

or what colors you throw into the sky around you,

the wind still bites at my cheeks.

You just make me endure a little bit longer.
